• CAS received 9,025 inquiries and referrals
• CAS responded to 72% of these calls by providing information, referral to another community service or assessing the situation to determine there was no reason for further investigation or ongoing service
• CAS completed 2,494 investigations of child abuse and neglect
• 1,963 of these investigations were closed following short term service
• CAS opened 531 new protection cases, closed 574 protection cases
• CAS provided investigation, protection and counselling services to 1,620 families with 3,777 children
• There were 851 children and youth in CAS care on April 1, 2008 and 880 children and youth in care on March 31, 2009
• CAS admitted 395 children into substitute care and discharged 365 children
• CAS finalized 41 adoptions during the year
