The Children’s Aid Society of London &
Middlesex (the Society) has a long-standing history of
Fund Development to support the needs of children, youth and families who we
serve within Middlesex County where either no or limited funding from the
Ministry of Children and Youth Services is available, and/or no other community
resource is accessible or suitable to meet current needs.
Our goal is to ensure that the giving experience is a positive one for each donor in all interactions with Society staff from initial contact to recognition.
Gifts (donations) must be given freely by the donor with no appearance of a motive that would
provide an advantage to the donor as a service recipient, in any manner.
The Society does not accept funds for:
- services
and staffing that fall within the legislated responsibilities of the
Ministry of Community and Social Services; and/or
- services
that can be provided by community partners as part of a broad continuum of
services available in London and Middlesex
Generally, the Society will accept most gifts
from the community/donors. Gifts can be in the form of cash, cheques or cash equivalents as well as grants, personal property and gifts-in-kind as new items. The following principles will be considered before a
gift is accepted by the Society.
1)
Further the goals and objectives of the
Society as outlined in a specific program or a case for support to which the
gift is being directed;
2)
Not duplicate a core or mandatory
program or service designed to protect and support children in care as covered
already by the Ministry of Children and Youth Services or an
existing community partner;
3)
Follow receipting laws outlined by the
Canada Revenue Agency according to a receipt stating the value in cases where a
receipt is requested by the donor;
4)
Be
subsequently dispersed or distributed by staff in a manner that is fair and
equitable among those we serve;
5)
Not compromise the Vision, Mission and
Guiding Principles of the Society;
6)
Not have any restrictions for use
placed on it by the donor that are incompatible with the Society or Canada
Revenue Agency requirements;
7)
Not be accepted from any individual or
entity involved in activities that are illegal at any level;
8)
Not be accepted if the donor’s
reputation or business activities may have an adverse effect on the reputation
of Society;
9)
Not be accepted if the gift carries
with it unacceptable financial risk and burden; and
10) Not
be accepted in exchange for a full or partial service or contract.
11) Not
to be considered a donation when a business receives special recognition or if
it receives more than minimal recognition because it is considered Sponsorship
(see Sponsorship in Definitions section).
Donors should seek their own legal counsel as
appropriate before making any gift. The Society cannot/will not offer legal
advice with respect to donations.
